DAB / T-DMB transmitters by Rohde & Schwarz
From March on, Rohde & Schwarz has available its new R & S NA8200 transmitters for DAB / T-DMB in whose sole purpose was to design maximize efficiency in minimal space. Each transmitter family provides a higher output power than their predecessors in the series for R & S NA6000 DAB.
The R & S NA8200 offers a highly valued characteristic: improved power added efficiency (PAE = power-added efficiency). Thanks to a unique new feature, the transmitter reaches the PAE even with reduced output power. This translates into lower operating costs. All transmitters of the new generation of Rohde & Schwarz are based on this system design. The output power for each rack is between 800 W and 2400 W before the filter. This high RF power in minimum space reduces infrastructure costs. The standby exciter, which also saves space, is located in the same rack.
An important innovation in the new transmitter concept is the R & S SX801 exciter. With its processing time of less than 100 ms in DAB mode I, the R & S SX801 exciter is the fastest currently available in the market. The extra speed is a big advantage in large-area networks as well as in the case of ETI signal power or a satellite network operated by transmitters from different manufacturers. The longer the signal path, the less time remains for processing it. After all, the reference clock requires that the total delay of the signal does not exceed one second.
Amplifiers can be used in broadband applications in the frequency range 174 MHz to 250 MHz in the VHF band III without requiring additional adjustments. This transmitter can be switched at any point the required DAB channel, from 5A to 13F. Once a transmitter into service and changed its frequency range, and is not required because precorrection precorrection curves are automatically charged for all frequencies and power levels. The R & S NA8200 accommodates up to six preamps in a rack, which gives a high level of redundancy. The distribution schedule is maintained, even in case of failure of the amplifier. The transmitters are cooled by two internal fans. An external cooling system can be added at the bottom or top of the transmitter.
