New amendment to Standard IEEE802.1n

On 11 September 2009, the U.S. standards body IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) has announced that its board has ratified standard IEEE 802.11n amendment ™ -2009, defining the mechanisms that provide improvements in the rates and data transfer rates for wireless local area networks (WLANs). This new amendment to IEEE 802.11 standard is designed to assist the industry in data communications demands for development in the enterprise, home and public WLANs with the rise of file transfers high-bandwidth applications and next-generation multimedia.
IEEE 802.11-based WLANs are widely deployed, with over 1 million units shipped per day. The IEEE 802.11 standard defines how to design interoperable WLAN equipment that provides a range of capabilities including a wide range of data transfer rates, quality service, reliability, optimization of the range of coupling options device's network management and security.

Advantages of WLAN 802.11n for a "higher processing performance", - enable the development of a more scalable WLAN data rates of delivery 10-fold larger than those previously defined while ensuring coexistence with previous systems and implementations of security. More than 400 suppliers of equipment and silicon, providers, systems integrators, consulting organizations and academic institutions in over 20 countries participated in a seven-year effort that led the ratification of IEEE 802.11n.
The publication of the amendment is scheduled for mid-October. "This was a huge technical challenge that required extraordinary effort and sustained concentration of great variety of participants. When we started in 2002, many of the technologies in 802.11n research were matters of college and had not been developed, "said Bruce Kraemer, chair of the IEEE Wireless LAN Working Group.
"The performance improvements achieved by the transform IEEE 802.11n WLAN user experience, and the ratification of the amendment sets, open stage for a new wave of innovation in use and the creation of new market opportunities."
Add Paul Nikolich, chairman of the standards committee IEEE 802 LAN / MAN: "Everyone involved in the process 802. -and especially Bruce Kraemer, whose exemplary leadership has been crucial, deserve congratulations, because this is a key achievement data communications and a good environmental example for the 802 and achieved a consensus among its participants. The amendment will enable a leap forward in capability of scaling the WLAN with only a modest rise in associated costs for industry and end users.
