The Siemens Industry Automation Division (IA) has now merged its range of RFID (Radio FrequencyIdentification) and optical code reading systems under the joint banner of Simatic Ident. Simatic
Ident encompasses the two technologies most commonly used for this type of application in today’s industrial environment.
These reliable technologies ensure the seamless traceability of products and components throughout the entire manufacturing, procurement and shipping process.
Depending on the specific application, there are two identification technologies used predominantly in industrial environments today: RFID based on radio waves, and optically operating code reading systems for the detection of 1D codes (barcodes), 2D codes such as Data Matrix Codes (DMC) and Optical Character Recognition (OCR).
